We are expanding our local impact in Southeast Texas with the launch of the Pathways to Port Arthur LNG Scholarship Fund—a full-tuition scholarship program designed to open doors, remove financial barriers and help local students build meaningful careers in high demand science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) fields.
We are investing in the next generation of students, giving them the support and opportunity they need to pursue their goals and build strong careers.
Supporting Students Who Call Southeast Texas Home
We established the Pathways to Port Arthur LNG Scholarship Fund in collaboration with the Foundation for Southeast Texas to support ten graduating seniors from Jefferson County or Orange County. Recipients will receive up to four years of full tuition, books and fees as they pursue STEM degrees at local institutions including Lamar University, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Port Arthur, Lamar State College Orange, Golden Triangle Empowerment Center, Pathway Vocational Academy, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas and Associate Builders and Contractors.
For us, this program is a natural extension of our long-term commitment to strengthening the local workforce and expanding access to high-quality education.
William Gurrola, Sempra Infrastructure vice president and general manager of Port Arthur LNG, emphasized our long-term vision.
“By removing financial barriers, this scholarship fund reflects our long-term belief in increasing economic opportunity, helping students pursue their goals and supporting local families so this region can thrive for decades,” said Gurrola.
Building a Stronger Workforce Pipeline
We designed this scholarship program to help grow a skilled, local workforce—one equipped for the high demand careers that fuel the region’s economic future. By supporting students early in their academic journey, we are helping create a clear pathway from classroom to career.
“Investing in local talent is one of the most meaningful things we can do. These students are the next generation of operators, engineers and leaders who will keep this region strong,” said Chris Fortenberry, Sempra Infrastructure’s Port Arthur LNG vice president of operations. “We live and work in this community, and we want to see our young people thrive. By investing in their education, we’re investing in the future of our facility, our industry and Southeast Texas.”
As a long‑standing philanthropic partner in the region, the Foundation for Southeast Texas plays a key role in connecting our resources to local students and ensuring these community investments reach them through a fair, unbiased selection process. Their collaboration strengthens the reach and impact of the scholarship program.
“This scholarship will help students pursue their goals and build rewarding careers right here at home,” said Mellie Bevilacqua, executive director of the Foundation for Southeast Texas. “We are proud to work with the Sempra Infrastructure and Port Arthur LNG teams on this transformative investment in our community.”
