Community

Port Arthur LNG will be a world-class facility that provides abundant, clean, reliable U.S. natural gas to the world. Port Arthur LNG is proud to call Jefferson County, Texas home and is committed to making the community a better place because of our presence.

Since 2015, Port Arthur LNG has invested more than $40 million to support Jefferson County communities, including working with local vendors to procure materials and services for the relocation of a 3.5-mile portion of Highway 87 and on grants to more than 60 local non-profits, schools and business development groups.

Additionally, in April 2023, we announced a $500,000 commitment toward workforce readiness and development programs. This commitment was matched by our engineering, procurement and contracting partner, Bechtel, for a total commitment of $1 million.

These funds are focused on bolstering local partnerships in workforce readiness and development, with a focus on job training and skills development efforts that will not only upskill local residents, but also enable us to attract, retain, develop and engage superior local talent, as our facility becomes operational.

We know there are many “Pathways to Port Arthur LNG” for the local community, and some of the efforts already underway in this area include partnerships with

  • The Sabine Pass Independent School District Career and Technology Center
  • The Port Arthur Independent School District Pipefitting Program
  • The Nederland Independent School District Welding Program
  • Funding the Port Arthur LNG Process Operator Scholarship program with Lamar State College Port Arthur
  • Supporting the Lamar State College LNG Skid and Training Center

Developing and Hiring Local Talent

We are also incredibly proud of the progress we have made to hire local employees.

We have hired around 1,000 people to work on site in the past year, and 580 of these hires of construction workers and office employees are “local hires,” from the Southeast Texas region.

The Port Arthur LNG project also has more than 100 local vendors and suppliers providing goods and services to the project at a value of more than $160 million.

We are invested in being an industry leader and accomplish this by championing health, safety and security programs that protect our people, contractors, and operations. Through our emergency preparedness and safety initiatives, not only do we invest in programs that protect our communities, but we also fund local non-profit organizations that help address food insecurity, provide vital health screenings and services, and that help families not only gain financial stability but also build stronger, more sustainable futures.
