Community Benefits

The Port Arthur liquefaction project, if approved and constructed, would create jobs, provide new revenue to the U.S. economy and provide access to low-priced natural gas to the global economy.

The project would be a multi-billion dollar infrastructure investment that will support manufacturing, small business and the local community. The Port Arthur liquefaction project has strong support from the area’s congressional delegation and the region’s state and local officials and community leaders.

New Jobs

The project is estimated to support the creation of up to approximately 3,500 on-site engineering and construction jobs at the peak of construction and approximately 1,300 jobs averaged over the approximately 4- to 5-year construction period of the project. It is estimated that at least 100 full-time jobs would be created for operation and maintenance of the facility on a long-term basis. Additional jobs would be created by the construction and operation of the proposed pipelines.

Highway 87

To accommodate the project, a 3-mile portion of Highway 87 between the Intracoastal Waterway and Keith Lake Pass, which extends to the community of Sabine Pass, would be relocated and built to Texas Department of Transportation standards. The relocation of Highway 87 away from close proximity to the channel is expected to benefit the local community by reducing risks of flooding.
