Port Cities Rescue Mission Ministries hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony this week to celebrate the launch of its new Community Computer Lab and training programs, made possible through a $40,000 partnership investment from Port Arthur LNG. The funding will expand access to digital tools, workforce development training and provide increased economic mobility opportunities for residents across Southeast Texas.
The partnership investment supports program facilitation and new equipment for an enhanced digital literacy lab designed to help families build skills for the future. Local officials, community partners and residents attended the event to mark the opening of the new space and highlighted the importance of expanding workforce training in Port Arthur.
“Supporting digital literacy is an investment in the future of Port Arthur,” said Selby Lilley, regional vice president of external affairs and communications for Sempra Infrastructure. “Port Arthur LNG is proud to partner with the Port Cities Rescue Mission to help expand access to digital learning and job training, which helps create pathways that can change lives and benefit families across Southeast Texas for years to come.”
Port Cities Rescue Mission Ministries executive director Patricia Henderson says the new lab will help bridge the digital divide and strengthen pathways to education and employment for local families.

The computer lab fills a critical need in Port Arthur, where many residents still face barriers to digital participation despite growing access to technology. By offering training, tools and a welcoming place to learn, the lab will help people build confidence, strengthen job skills and connect to opportunities across Southeast Texas.
In addition to offering updated technology, the new lab will offer a set of certificate-ready programs tailored to each individual’s needs and help them build practical skills. The digital literacy course is an eight-week, in-person series that combines guided instruction with hands-on practice, covering internet navigation, common productivity software and job readiness tools. The financial literacy program follows a six-to-eight-week format and walks participants through budgeting, banking, credit, debt management and entrepreneurship, ending with a personalized financial action plan. For residents interested in career training, the Workforce Ready Program offers a pathway model with instruction in office administration, pre-construction and pre-welding. Participants can also take part in paid junior apprenticeships through community organizations, gaining real world experience and a route to employment in Southeast Texas.
Since 2015, Sempra Infrastructure has invested more than $4.5 million in nonprofits, schools and community-based organizations in Jefferson County. The company anticipates contributing approximately $20 million in social investments by 2030 to ensure long-term community growth.
